The carbohydrates are necessary for healthy and proper digestion to take place. Thus a diet rich in carbohydrates will ensure your proper health and that of your baby. Some of the food items rich in carbohydrates include bread, potatoes, cereals, fruits, vegetables, rice etc.
A diet during pregnancy should also include foods rich in calcium like milk, yoghurt, spinach, salmons etc. This will help strengthen your bones for pregnancy and also help in the right growth of your baby’s bones.
The vitamins too are an important nutrient type necessary for the health of mother and baby. Some doctors may prescribe external tablets to supplement vitamin needs. However it is best to eat lots of food stuffs rich in vitamins.
The iron requirements increase during the period of pregnancy and are required for blood development. Thus it is advisable to eat iron rich food stuffs like red meat, cereals, whole grains and spinach.
The diet should also include fatty food stuffs like dairy products, nuts, peanut butter, avocado etc. They will help you and your baby in for your fat requirements.
Another important item to be included during pregnancy is folic acid. This is can be either taken as a supplement or from food stuffs like green leafy vegetables, yellow fruits, beans and peanuts.
It is also important to note that the diet during pregnancy should not include the intake of alcohol, cigarettes, allergic food stuffs, over the counter drugs, fast food items etc. These are harmful for both the mother and the baby and may lead to complications.
